Nostalgia – it’s a big part of the life of every college student. We college students tend to dwell on how great things were in elementary school, when we watched Nickelodeon, ate candy all the time, and never had midterms.
Apparently this longing for childhood isn’t just a college thing.
Literary ensemble “In So Many Words” explores schoolyard memories in In So Many Words: Back to School, which shows Saturday and Sunday at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater.
Ensemble members Margot Bordelon, Christopher Devine, Larry Kerns and Arlene Malinowski will recount their favorite school stories, with titles such as “Surviving Square Dancing in Public Schools” and “The Oregon Trail: Pixellated Catastrophes.”
“(Our) goal is humor and also material people could relate to,” Devine says. “That’s why we picked school. It’s a common language, because there are certain elements of schoool that will always stay the same.”
The atmosphere at Victory Gardens will also be childlike, with embarrassing pictures and baking soda volcanoes decorating the venue. Elementary school-style refreshments will also be sold, with a repertoire consisting of Twinkies and Fruit Roll-Ups. Inner child-seekers over 21 can head to the Spike Your Own Punch Cash Bar.
