Evanston resident shot in leg while riding in van

An 18-year-old Evanston resident was shot Saturday night at the corner of Emerson Street and Wesley Avenue while riding in a van, according to a representative of the Evanston Police Department. The victim was traveling westbound at 11:30 p.m. in a friend’s van when he saw a flash come from a group of eight or nine males standing on the corner, said EPD Commander James Elliot. The victim discovered he had been shot in the leg, and his friends drove him to St. Francis Hospital at 355 Ridge Ave. He was treated and released that night, Elliot said. The man reported the incident on Monday, making a search for suspects difficult, Elliot said. There are no leads, he said, but the crime is under investigation.
