Medill senior Lindsay Minnema, a Daily staffer since Winter Quarter 2004 and current deputy design editor, received the William J. Eaton Memorial Award on Tuesday from the Students Publishing Co.
The award recognizes a staff member of the Daily who exhibits exceptional dedication to the newspaper.
“Lindsay has been one of the most hardworking members of our staff,” Daily Editor in Chief Ryan Wenzel said. “She has fostered a spirit of innovation.”
Minnema’s previous positions included design editor, copy editor and general assignment reporter for the city desk. Minnema implemented the Daily’s current design in the fall.
The award’s namesake, William Eaton, Medill ’51, worked for the Daily from 1947 to 1951. A 1970 Pulitzer Prize winner, Eaton was a foreign correspondent for the Los Angeles Times. After his death in 2005, his friends collected $4,000 for an award in his honor to be given to a Daily staffer.
Each quarter a member of The Daily’s staff receives the $500 award. The editorial board offers nominations, and the Student Publishing Co. Board of Directors selects the winner.
