Between the charming British sound and the theme of returning home, there’s no question that Badly Drawn Boy was Born in the U.K.. As the title suggests, Born in the U.K. is Damon Gough’s ode to all things familiar and homey. His latest effort has the innovative instrumentals and sunny, languid quality of past albums and is addled with pleasantly vague lyrics about promises, eternity, love, strength and death. Though the words don’t pack a punch, Badly Drawn Boy has a sublime touch when it comes to crafting chill melodies, rendering the album as the perfect companion for both a long car ride and a sleep-inducing lullaby. One thing is for sure: There’s nothing badly done about this.
