Memorial services for Soumit Ghosh, the fifth-year Music senior who died Feb. 14., will be held at 2 p.m March 11 in Alice Millar Chapel.
Ghosh, 22, sustained injuries in a one-car accident near his home in Nashville, Tenn., according to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Nashville. He died in the hospital three days later.
Friends said Ghosh was a congenial and passionate person with diverse interests.
He was particularly interested in music, medicine and social service.
Ghosh completed his violin major last year and was completing his second major in communication studies this year.
“(Violin) was really his first love,” violin teacher and Music Prof. Gerardo Ribeiro said.
Ghosh was active on campus. He circulated petitions to improve the School of Music and started a company to tutor middle- and high-school students.
Last year he was a resident assistant in Slivka College of Science and Engineering.
“He always wanted to explore every single option that Northwestern had to offer,” said Linda Garton, assistant dean for admission and student affairs for the Music School. “He didn’t want to leave any rock unturned.”
Ghosh’s love of laughter and multiple interests made him “one of the most resilient people I’ve ever met,” said friend Tom Parisi, Music ’05.
Ghosh went to Nashville to help his brother with an audition, Parisi said.
The accident occurred while he was driving back to Evanston.
