Men arrested after laptop stolen, woman assaulted

Two Evanston men were arrested early Saturday morning after a laptop computer was stolen from a student’s apartment and the female resident who chased them out was beaten on the porch, police said.

Audi Murphy, 19, of the 1700 block of McDaniel Avenue is charged with residential burglary and battery.

Pierre Giles, 17, of the 1800 block of Hovland Court, is charged with residential burglary.

A resident saw Murphy and Giles in the apartment at about 1:20 a.m. Saturday, said Deputy Chief Joe Bellino of Evanston Police Department. She chased them out to the porch. Murphy allegedly banged the woman’s head onto a porch railing and kicked her, Bellino said. The two men then left the area.

Murphy and Giles were stopped later by police. The victim positively identified the two men, Bellino said.

Murphy and Giles both will appear at Circuit Court in Skokie on March 7.
