If Northwestern students are concerned about getting caught with a fake I.D., they didn’t show it Tuesday night.
Only three students, all affiliated with Associated Student Government, showed up to the Ohio State Room of Norris University Center Tuesday night to hear Toshi Lukens from the Illinois Secretary of State’s office speak about state D.U.I. and fake I.D. laws. The event was sponsored by ASG.
“We told IFC and Panhel about (the event) and encouraged them to come but apparently they couldn’t,” said Jennifer McQuiston, a Medill senior and ASG campus relations chairwoman.
Fake cards can be confiscated by the police or bar employees and later sent to the Secretary of State’s office. The department has a database of Illinois licenses and can scan the photo on the fraudulent I.D. to compare with others in the system.
If the I.D. was borrowed, the card owner can lose use of the license for a year.
More workshops are being held for police officers to learn how to spot fake I.D.s, Lukens said.
“(Enforcement) is starting to change,” Lukens said. “It’s a result of 9/11.”
