Sales of additional Kanye tickets smooth but slow

Extra Kanye West tickets went on sale at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. At 9:55 a.m., no students were in line.

Compared with last week’s chaos where students camped out in Norris University Center overnight, Wednesday’s sale went smoother because students who were on the waiting list knew they would get tickets.

More than 900 students waited in line for hours on Nov. 2. After tickets were sold out, disappointed students added their names to a waitlist. A&O announced on Monday the sale of 1,300 additional tickets.

About 360 students signed up for the list, said Rachel Cort, a talent buyer for the A&O Concerts Committee. About half of those students picked up tickets by 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

“It’s slower than we expected,” Cort, a Weinberg junior, said Wednesday. “But people on the waitlist know their tickets are here, and all they have to do is come by to pick them up, so there’s none of the mad rush.”

By the end of sales Wednesday, about 255 waitlisted people claimed their tickets, said Peter Kahn, A&O chairman and a Communication senior.

Remaining tickets were placed into today’s general pool. About 790 tickets will be available today, Kahn said.

Buyers on the waitlist and general sales could purchase two tickets per WildCARD, compared to the four-ticket limit during the Nov. 2 sale.

Students on the waitlist said they were glad A&O decided to sell more tickets.

“I was hoping they would open up more seats,” said Bob DeBelina, a McCormick junior. “They should pack the place.”

Other students said they saw the line last week and didn’t think they had a chance.

“I was out by the bike racks, and I just gave up,” said Neil Patel, a Weinberg senior.

Patel said he put his name on the wait list in hopes that A&O would open ticket sales again.

“(Kanye West’s) one of the biggest names out there right now, and this is a great chance to see him,” said Patel, who now has a ticket.

Kanye will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Welsh-Ryan Arena. Campus shuttles with a special Welsh-Ryan Arena stop will run that night from 6 to 8 p.m. and then from 10 to 11:30 p.m.
