A Weinberg senior reported a laptop computer stolen from his off-campus apartment over the weekend.
Andrzej Benkowski said he spent the weekend in Wisconsin and that when he returned to his Hamlin Street home Monday, his custom-made Milwaukee PC was missing.
Benkowski said his three housemates did not notice anything unusual while he was out of town and that he had no idea who could have stolen his laptop.
“One of our windows was not locked and that could have been a possible way this person got around,” Benkowski said.
The computer was five years old and worth about $1,000, Benkowski said.
He moved into the house in early September and this was the first time there was a crime there.
According to an Evanston Police Department report, Benkowski’s housemates said an unknown man entered the house Sunday with a key and walked around the first floor but did not go upstairs to Benkowski’s bedroom.
But this incident likely had nothing to do with the missing computer, Benkowski said.
He said he will now change his computer’s user name and passwords to make sure the thief does not access his personal information. Then, he will buy a new computer.
“I’m going to wait until Dell has a sale,” Benkowski said.
