Two teenage men robbed a Northwestern student at gunpoint Tuesday night on the Chicago Campus, University Police said.
The victim, who attends classes on the Chicago Campus, was not injured, said Assistant Chief Daniel McAleer of UP.
The men approached the student at about
10 p.m. while he was getting into his car on the 300 block of East Erie Street, McAleer said.
The student told police that one of the men stuck a silver handgun in the student’s back.
The offenders searched the student’s pocket for money and took his wallet, McAleer said. The men returned the wallet after they found it did not contain any money.
The student had one dollar and a cell phone in his pocket, but the men did not take either item, McAleer said.
After the men returned the wallet, they ran east on Erie, McAleer said.
The student told police the offenders were between 16 and 17 years old.
The UP report did not include the age of the victim, McAleer said.
The student called UP’s Chicago station to report the incident when he returned to his home in Chicago Tuesday night, McAleer said.
UP notified the Chicago Police Department of the incident, McAleer said.
A report of the incident posted on Associated Student Government’s HereAndNow Web site Wednesday afternoon advised all community members to be alert when walking at night.
