The Daily Northwestern was awarded one of college journalism’s highest honors, from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association which honored The Daily with Gold Crown Awards in 2003 and 2004. Also, The Daily received 6 Gold Circle Awards for sports features, cartoons, newswriting, general feature writing, overall design and feature page design. The Daily also won first place for editorial writing from the Associated Collegiate Press. In February 2004, at the annual Illinois College Press Association convention, The Daily received top honors for editorial writing, front page design, and in-depth reporting, in addition to 16 other awards and honorable mentions. In May, The Daily’s series, “State of Mind: a Seven Part Special Report”, was selected as the collegiate winner of the Mental Health Association?s 2004 Media Awards Competition.
