NU hoops forward to play on Big Ten’s foreign tour
Northwestern senior Davor Duvancic was named to the Big Ten’s Foreign Tour Team on Tuesday when the conference released the squad’s 12-man roster.
Duvancic, a forward on the NU men’s basketball team, is slated to join guards Brandon McKnight of Purdue and Marshall Strickland of Indiana, among others, for a five-game tour in France and Italy.
Penn State head coach Ed DeChellis will lead the team on its trip, which is scheduled for August 10 through 20.
The Big Ten’s last Foreign Tour team, which played in 2002, featured former NU forward Winston Blake, who was coming off his junior season, in which he was the Wildcats’ leading scorer.
While Duvancic’s honor places him with a solid group of Big Ten players, the touring squad does not necessarily represent the best of the conference. Strickland is the only representative of the 15 returning players who earned All-Big Ten honors last season to join the tour.
Associate athletic director named to Lyon’s old post
The Northwestern Athletics Department welcomed Noreen Morris as associate athletic director for intercollegiate services and senior women’s administrator on Tuesday, according to an NU media services release.
Morris, a former associate commissioner for Conference USA, takes the position previously held by Nancy Lyons, who left the NU athletic department in June to take a job at Boston University.
As associate athletic director for intercollegiate services, Morris will handle compliance issues with the Big Ten and NCAA bylaws, among other duties, the release states.
As senior women’s administrator, Morris will work will NU’s women’s lacrosse, soccer, swimming and tennis programs.
She also will help with the men’s swimming program.
