The Northwestern women’s lacrosse team has trailed after the first half in its past three games — but this time the Wildcats failed to overcome a first-half deficit, ending their season Sunday with a 15-11 loss to second-seed Virginia in the NCAA quarterfinals.
After entering the second half down by two, NU tied the game within eight minutes.
But the Virginia offense, led by the nation’s scoring leader, Amy Appelt, eventually was too much for NU’s defense to handle.
