Play by alum
Northwestern alum Michael Stock and Sideway Theater Company present “A Night of Introduction,” a series of short scenes from the company’s past and future plays.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at NU’s Wallis Theater on Friday and Saturday. Food will be provided.

Seder story and dinner
Communal Passover Seder will be held at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday at the Tannenbaum Chabad House. The telling of the story of Passover will be followed by wine and dinner.

Policy research speaker
Burton Weisbrod from the Institute for Policy Research will speak at noon Monday at the conference room, 617 Library Place. The free speech is titled “Hospitals, Hospices, Jails and Symphony Orchestras: Are Nonprofit Organizations Really Different?”
Performance about photographer
Free performances of “12 Volt Heart,” a theatrical production with dance, singing, video, photography and bunraku puppetry, will run at NU’s Struble Theatre at 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
The piece details the life of Dan Eldon, a Reuters photographer who was killed in war-ridden Somalia 10 years ago.
The performance will be followed by discussion with the artists and Kathy Eldon, the subject’s mother.
‘Blackgirl’ founder
Kenya James, who founded Blackgirl magazine as a teenager, will discuss “The Making of a Magazine” as part of Medill’s Crain Lecture Series next week.
The free lecture will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at the McCormick Tribune Center Forum.
Activist talk
Julia Butterfly, who spent two years living in a redwood tree to protest the destruction of California’s old-growth forests, will perform and give a lecture on Thursday, April 8, at 7 p.m. at Ryan Family Auditorium. A forum will conclude the evening, which is sponsored by Peace Project.
Talk on future of food
A panel of experts will discuss — in plain English — the scientific and ethical issues surrounding genetically modified food at a talk on Saturday.
The free conference starts at 10 a.m. at Coon Forum. Speakers include representatives from Northern Arizona University, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the University of California.
