Passion lacking in NU stands, after Wisconsin football game
For students at Northwestern, Saturday marked our first win over a ranked opponent in 2 years. For a moment the frustrations of blowing a 14-0 lead against Minnesota or losing to Air Force by a point were gone. Fans could rejoice in NU’s thorough domination of a solid football team.
But after the game, there was absolutely no love. For starters it’s our Homecoming game, and even with all of our alumni, we were outnumbered by Wisconsin fans. Next, the fans who were excited enough to charge the field were blockaded by dozens of police officers and security guards. Why weren’t they letting us charge the field and celebrate a win on Homecoming?
As fans filed out of the stadium, there were a few occasional cheers of “Go Cats” but nothing that would indicate the magnitude of our team’s accomplishment. Saturday night my friends and I expected there to be crazy victory parties, like there would be at other schools; however, there was nothing. Perhaps the problem with NU sports is not the players or the coaches, but the atmosphere they play in.
Hey, at least the three NU students getting their ass kicked by a mob of Wisconsin fans showed some passion.

Yankees loss in World Series should overshadow Cub loss
I appreciated everyone in Chicago’s tears when the Florida Marlins beat the Chicago Cubs. It was a horribly pathetic seventh game that the Cubs deserved to lose. However, I’d just like to say that hating the Marlins won’t make the Cubs a better team.
The Marlins went on to play superbly against the New York Yankees, becoming the 2003 World Championships in six excellently played games on both teams’ parts.
