Opening Day: Spring football starts today

The Northwestern football team begins its preparation for the 2003 season today, as the Wildcats hit the gridiron for the first time after finishing last season with a 3-9 record.

Coach Randy Walker will hold 14 practices, culminating in the annual Purple-White scrimmage on April 26.

The young NU squad returns most of its unit a year older and wiser. The Cats lose only three starters on offense and two on defense.

Linebacker Pat Durr will not return — at least not yet. The senior, who missed almost all fall with a knee injury, won’t take the field this spring.
