Thomas Soltau, we hardly knew ye.
The 6-foot-11 sophomore center, who totaled 26 minutes in eight games for his career, has withdrawn from Northwestern to pursue professional playing opportunities in his native country of Denmark, head coach Bill Carmody announced Wednesday.
Soltau finished his NU career with 13 and three rebounds. He played in four games this season, including a career-high four-point performance Saturday against Long Island.
The 225-pounder’s departure and the graduation of seniors Winston Blake, Jason Burke and Aaron Jennings will open up four scholarships for NU next season. After the early signing period, the Cats have inked only 6-10 center Vince Scott.
Soltau, who is still on campus, failed to crack NU’s regular rotation even after injuries to Jennings and 6-foot-9 freshman Ivan Tolic left the Cats struggling to find an inside presence.
