Four violent robberies were reported in Evanston last weekend, said Cmdr. Michael Perry of the Evanston Police Department.
In unrelated cases, two stores were robbed, a delivery man was held up and a juvenile was assaulted with eggs and forced to the ground. Losses included $365 in cash and a pizza.
A masked man robbed a beauty supply store Thursday afternoon after showing a handgun to an employee, Perry said.
The offender entered New World Beauty Supplies, 1703 Simpson St., at 2:30 p.m. and motioned to the employee to hang up the telephone, Perry said. The offender then displayed a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money, Perry said.
The victim, who was alone in the store with the offender, handed him $150 and complied with an order to sit on the floor behind the counter, Perry said.
In an unrelated incident, a video rental store was robbed after a man threatened an employee with a knife Friday, Perry said.
The victim was working alone at Video Adventure, 631 Chicago Ave., when a man entered the store at 1:15 p.m. holding a knife in his right hand, Perry said.
The offender told the employee, “Get in the back room. … Get on the floor!” The employee then went to the adult video room and left the door partially open, Perry said. The employee told police she saw the offender take $200 from an unlocked cash drawer and exit the store heading east on Keeney Avenue.
The victim said the suspect was wearing a hat made from a lime green beach ball, Perry said. The robbery was captured by the store’s video surveillance.
A pizza delivery employee also was threatened with a knife Friday and was robbed of his pizza, Perry said.
The Domino’s Pizza delivery man told police he was on the 1800 block of Darrow Avenue trying to locate a customer when a man wearing a blue baseball cap emerged from between two buildings, Perry said.
The man displayed a knife and demanded the pizza, Perry said. The victim handed it over and the offender left the scene.
Also last weekend, a juvenile was pelted with eggs and robbed by three offenders on Halloween, Perry said.
The victim was walking near the intersection of Custer Avenue and Case Street at 7:50 p.m. on Thursday when three men approached him and began throwing eggs at him, Perry said. They grabbed the victim and pushed him to the ground. They took a cellular telephone, identification cards and about $15 from his pockets.
Police do not believe any of the incidents are related.
