The spice of life

Twirling across the stage, Speech graduate student Rebecca Bossen stretches, releasing white letters from her umbrella’s silver skeleton frame.

“It’s raining letters again, daddy,” she says.

Bossen is acting in Jose Cruz Gonzalez’s “Salt & Pepper,” which revolves around an old man (first-year Speech graduate student Casey Lane) hiding the shame of illiteracy from his two grandchildren, Salt (Speech freshman Peter Duchan) and Andy (Speech and WCAS junior Michael Scalzitti).

Although the play is geared towards younger audiences, director and theater Prof. Rives Collins hesitates to call it a children’s show because of its themes.
