As part of a continuing effort to reach off-campus students, Associated Student Government’s External Relations Committee is compiling information for guides on parking and apartments in Evanston.
The committee will compile ratings for various apartment buildings by surveying current NU students who live there, said Jada Black, ASG’s external relations chair.
“The goal would be to include as many apartments as possible in the Evanston area, especially those that are year after year inhabited by students,” Black said.
The guide to off-campus housing will be completed by mid-January, Black said. It will be available for free in book form, and Black said she hopes it also will be put online.
“There isn’t a confidential source for students to get information about their tenant rights and responsibilities as well as a comprehensive listing of every landlord in Evanston,” said Black, a Medill junior. “It’s difficult to find a place that provides exactly what you’re looking for.”
The parking guide will be on the Web and in pamphlet form by the end of Fall Quarter, Black said. Students will be able to log on and find a “comprehensive” list of where parking is located on and off campus and which parking areas currently are unavailable.
“Especially with the construction on campus, it’s been difficult for students to find parking in the Evanston area,” Black said.
Both guides will fill a void in resources for off-campus students, Black said.
“The goal of external relations is to work with concerns of NU students in Evanston,” Black said. “Basically, we’re providing student services for off-campus residents.”
