The Northwestern fencing team knew it would have a difficult time in New York.
And on Saturday the Wildcats found themselves sliding down the hill and at the bottom of the heap
NU went 1-2 at the Columbia Duals, falling to No. 5 Columbia-Barnard 17-10 and No. 6 Yale 15-12. The Cats (27-4) beat Brown 17-10 for their only victory.
Although NU lost twice, the team got what it came for: tough competition.
“I’m not overly disappointed since the matches were close,” NU coach Laurie Schiller said. “We are obviously as good a team as they are. We went there to get good competition and we got good competition.”
