A 56-year-old man died Monday night after he was hit by a Red Line train at the Loyola CTA station, officials said.

A northbound Chicago Transit Authority train hit the man at the station at about 7:45 p.m., CTA spokeswoman Ibis Antongiorgi told The Daily. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Chicago Fire Department officials responded to the scene of the accident, Antongiorgi said.

Northbound Red Line service was operating normally as of 10 p.m., Antongiorgi said. Earlier on Monday night, northbound Red Line and Purple Line trains were stalled at the Loyola stop.

Southbound Red Line trains are operating normally but will not stop at the Loyola station, Antongiorgi said.
