I scream, you scream, we all scream for FRÍO Gelato! For the second year in a row, FRÍO Gelato has claimed Best Sweet Treat.
Despite it being “mucho frío” in the winter, FRÍO Gelato always has loyal customers leaving smiling, dessert in hand — a testament to its delectable sweet treats.
Located at 1301 Chicago Ave., the Argentine dessert store elevates the ice cream experience, selling an assortment of sweet treats from creamy gelato and refreshing sorbet to ahogado (similar to an Italian affogato).
FRÍO Gelato offers a multitude of ways to consume the frozen delights: swirling gelato on top of a homemade cucurucho (waffle cone), sundae-style with toppings and sipping on a café-lato or hot choco-lato — gelato melted into hot coffee or hot milk.
For something more playful, FRÍO also sells barquillos (little boats), where scoops of gelato are nestled into a homemade waffle bowl.
Personally, my favorite treat at FRÍO Gelato is the dulce de leche alfa-lato: dulce de leche gelato sandwiched between two vanilla alfajores (Argentine cookies) and dipped in their housemade chocolate dip.
The various flavors of gelato and sorbet accommodate different dietary restrictions, with gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free and vegan options. My favorite flavor is the granizado (chocolate chip), but other choices like horchata, frutos del bosque (mixed berries) and mexican hot chocolate pique my interest.
The convenient location makes FRÍO Gelato a great place for a post-dinner stop to enjoy a scoop (or more), no matter the season.
