Junior Skye Ellis climbed into the top 10 in program history for the 5,000-meter run last Friday, clocking a time of 16:32.88, as Northwestern opened its outdoor track slate at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University.
Ellis’ time ranked the eighth-fastest outdoor run in NU history for the 5,000m.
The race marked continued success for Ellis this year, where she recorded top five performances for indoor track in the mile and 3,000m runs in program history, as well as nabbing the school record in the 800m with a time of 2:10.23 in February.
This 16-minute finish represents Ellis’ first completed 5,000m track race in her collegiate career. In September 2022, she ran the same distance at a pace of 18:21.40.
Senior Anna Hightower also competed in the event, posting a 16:43:39 time. Her personal best in the event came in April 2023 when she ran the 5000m at a speed of 16:22.92.
The Wildcats continue their spring season at the Spartan Invitational, which is hosted by Michigan State, this Friday.
