Jeanne Sparrow named speaker for Weinberg’s 2022 convocation ceremony
March 30, 2022
Television host and radio personality Jeanne Sparrow (Weinberg ’91, Communication ’15) will deliver the convocation speech for Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences’ 2022 ceremony, she announced Wednesday.
“I am honored to be the keynote speaker for the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences’ convocation ceremony,” Sparrow said in a video on Twitter and Instagram. “This is one of my favorite times of year, graduation time, because it’s about endings, but better beginnings, where we’ve been and where we’re going and all the crazy stuff in between.”
Sparrow currently hosts V103 Chicago, an iHeart Radio station. She is also a professional speaker, actress, voiceover artist and graduate adjunct faculty instructor at Northwestern in the School of Communication. As an undergraduate at NU, she joined WNUR and was a member of Delta Sigma Theta.
A recipient of seven Emmy awards, Sparrow’s work has also been recognized by organizations like the Chicago Association of Black Journalists and the Midwest Radio and Music Association.
Sparrow encouraged students in the class of 2022 to reach out to her with any topics they want to see covered during the address. Weinberg’s convocation ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, June 12 at 9 a.m. at Ryan Fieldhouse.
NU also plans to resume an in-person, universitywide commencement ceremony after two years of online programming. Last year, each school held its own in-person convocation celebration but the schoolwide ceremony remained virtual.
The University’s 164th commencement ceremony is scheduled for June 13 at Ryan Fieldhouse. “Caste” author Isabel Wilkerson will deliver the commencement address.
