The Daily Northwestern takes first in general excellence at Illinois College Press Association convention
March 9, 2019
CHICAGO — The Daily Northwestern took first place in the 2018 general excellence category for daily college newspapers at the Illinois College Press Association convention last month.
The award is the highest prize for college newspapers in Illinois. The award committee based its decision on three randomly-chosen issues of the newspapers printed in February, April and October.
Nora Shelly, The Daily’s editor in chief during Winter and Fall Quarters, said she expects more awards for The Daily in the future.
“The general excellence award is just a reflection of the hard work that everyone on staff — from reporters, copy editors, and designers to photographers and our multimedia team — put in over the course of a year,” she said. “I’m really proud of the work we did last year and am looking forward to seeing what The Daily does next.”
Peter Kotecki, who is now at Friedman Vartolo in New York, was the editor in chief for Spring Quarter.
