A 57-year-old Evanston resident was arrested Saturday after he took several items from Target, 1616 Sherman Ave., without paying for them.
A Target employee said he saw the man conceal six bottles of Jameson Irish Whiskey and five candles on his person. The man left the store without paying for the items, valued at a total of $204, but the store employee stopped him and escorted him back to the Target, Evanston Police Department Cmdr. Ryan Glew said.
The man had two outstanding warrants in Illinois, and EPD officers arrested the man and charged him with retail theft.
Man breaks into counseling center
A man broke into the counseling center at First Presbyterian Church of Evanston, 1427 Chicago Ave., on Friday.
The man who reported the break in said he has security footage of the man pacing around the lobby of the center before breaking open the locked door to the facility. Staff members were not monitoring the lobby at the time because they were busy with clients, Glew said.
EPD officers arrived at the scene and observed damage to the door jam of the interior door, but it is unclear if any items were stolen.
There are currently no suspects and no one is in custody.
