Chicago police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who shot and killed an incoming Northwestern doctoral student in September.

An anonymous donor gave the money to the Chicago Police Department as an investigation into Shane Colombo’s death remains unsolved. Colombo, 25, was shot on Sept. 2 in the 7500 block of North Clark Street. He was taken to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Colombo was in the Rogers Park neighborhood when he was caught in the crossfire of a gunfight between two men a few hours after he arrived in Chicago. The men escaped by foot and were later seen on surveillance footage chasing a third man in a Bank of America parking lot.

Colombo was preparing to join the University’s psychology Ph.D. program in the fall, and was in the process of moving to the Chicago area from New York City.

Anyone with information can call Area North detectives at 312-744-8261. Anonymous tips can be submitted to www.cpdtip.com.
