Funeral services for former Evanston Mayor Lorraine Morton is scheduled for Saturday Sept. 22, according to the city’s website.

The funeral will start at 11 a.m. at Alice Millar Chapel, 1870 Sheridan Rd.

Morton, who was Evanston’s first black mayor and the city’s longest-serving mayor to date, died on Sept. 8 at age 99. Current Mayor Steve Hagerty said the community was “so fortunate to have had her nearly 100 years of wisdom, inspiration, and optimism shared with us so genuinely and generously,” in a Facebook statement following her death.

Open visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 21, 3-8 p.m., at First Church of God Christian Life Center, 1524 Simpson St.
