Blotter: Police respond to possible false reports of shots fired

Julia Esparza, Copy Chief

Police responded to possibly false reports of shots fired Sunday night in south Evanston.

An anonymous caller alerted the Evanston Police Department after claiming to hear two shots fired near the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Dobson Street, Evanston police Cmdr. Ryan Glew said. Multiple units responded to the scene and checked the area for any injuries or shell casings, but did not find any, Glew said.

Glew said the sounds may have come from a loose sewer cap in the intersection that makes a loud popping noise when cars drive over it.
