Blotter: Stolen storage unit property valued at $500

A 66-year-old Evanston man reported to police Thursday that his storage unit had been burglarized.

The man found the hinges removed from the door of his unit in the 700 block of Oakton Street at 11:30 a.m., Evanston police communications coordinator Perry Polinski told The Daily in an email. Two electric saws, a tool bag and box and various hand tools were missing.

The stolen property was valued around $500 and police have not identified a suspect, Polinski said.

Police investigated attempted robbery

Police investigated an attempted robbery Thursday in the 1100 block of Dobson Street.

A 46-year-old Evanston man reported someone attempted to enter his home between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Polinski said. Officers found damage to his back door and pry marks on the rear basement door.

The suspect — whom police have not identified — did not enter the home, Polinski said.
