The progressive organization Our Revolution Illinois endorsed State Sen. Daniel Biss (D-Evanston) for governor on Monday, according to a campaign news release.

The Illinois political group grew out of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) presidential primary campaign, and has more than 250,000 members, according to the release.

Our Revolution chair Clem Balanoff said in the release that the group endorsed Biss because he supports increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour, supports Medicare For All and is a leader in efforts for education funding and free college tuition at public universities.

“(Biss) will bring fairness, reform, and middle-class values to Springfield,” Balanoff said in the release. “For the first time in many years, working men and women have a true voice and champion in our next governor.”

Biss said in the release it is “an honor” to receive the endorsement since he shares the same vision for Illinois. He added that in joining with the organization to organize communities, they can “transform our political system at its core and and build a state that works for us.”

The Biss campaign also announced in a news release that he will visit Northwestern on Saturday as part of his “Road Forward College and University Tour.”

Biss will discuss the financial burden of college tuition and how to make Illinois a welcoming place for students, according to the release.
