2017 Holiday Guide

With frosty weather rolling in off Lake Michigan, there’s no better time to settle into the couch and watch a feel-good holiday movie. The Daily caught up with some of the more recognizable faces in Northwestern athletics and asked what films they enjoy watching during the holiday season.

Pat Fitzgerald, football coach: That’s easy, man. It’s “Home Alone.” I mean, right? C’mon. I mean, that’s it.

Tommy Doles, junior offensive lineman: I was born on Christmas, I love Christmas. There’s a movie called “Joyeux Noël” that looks at the small temporary armistice between the German and French lines (during) World War I, how they kind of get together for Christmas Day. There are some bagpipes — it’s a really cool scene.

Brett Walsh, senior linebacker: I just like “A Christmas Story” — the one with the lamp. That’s just a classic.

Jeremy Larkin, redshirt freshman running back: “Elf” with Will Ferrell.

Jim Phillips, athletic director: “It’s a Wonderful Life.” I love that movie. And I make my kids watch it. And I thought they hated it at first, but every year they ask me, “Dad, when are we going to watch ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’?” I love that movie.

Joe McKeown, women’s basketball coach: My family, we always watch “Elf.” It cracks me up. I do like “Elf.”

Abi Scheid, sophomore forward: Definitely “The Santa Clause.”

Lindsey Pulliam, freshman guard: I think I’ve got to go with “The Grinch.”
