An Evanston resident was arrested Thursday in west Evanston in connection with driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as four traffic citations.

Officers first observed the 59-year-old man speeding on Church Street near Hartrey Avenue, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. The man then swerved across the double yellow line against oncoming traffic.

Police stopped the man in the 1800 block of Dodge Avenue, Dugan said. The driver smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and was slurring his speech.

After failing a standard field sobriety test, the man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and was given citations for speeding, improper lane usage, lack of license on his person and no proof of insurance, Dugan said.

Skokie man arrested in connection with 2 traffic offenses

A 32-year-old Skokie resident was arrested Wednesday in downtown Evanston in connection with two traffic offenses.

At 2 p.m., an officer observed a man drive through the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Grove Street, which is marked right turn only between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. due to a high volume of previous accidents, Dugan said. When the man was pulled over, the officer discovered he was driving with a suspended license.

The man was charged with disobeying a traffic control device and driving with a suspended license.
