Former Northwestern professor Wyndham Lathem and Andrew Warren, both charged with the stabbing death of Trenton Cornell-Duranleau, were formally indicted on murder charges Friday.

Lathem and Warren each face six counts of first-degree murder for allegedly killing Cornell-Duranleau as part of a premeditated murder-sex fantasy, the Chicago Tribune reported. Lathem will plead not guilty at a hearing scheduled for later this month, his attorney said, according to the Associated Press.

The Daily was unable to reach attorneys representing Lathem and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.

Prosecutors said Lathem and Warren allegedly discussed Cornell-Duranleau’s murder in an online chatroom before it happened. His death was part of a sexual fantasy Lathem and Warren shared, which involved killing someone and them killing themselves. Police found Cornell-Duranleau’s body in Lathem’s North State Street apartment on July 27. Prosecutors said he had been stabbed 70 times.

Both men were ordered held without bond after a hearing in August.

Before being fired from the University in August, Lathem was an associate professor of microbiology-immunology at the Feinberg School of Medicine on the Chicago Campus, a position he held since 2007.
