Two men, one from Chicago and another from Evanston, were arrested in connection with DUIs over the weekend in Evanston.

The 52-year-old Chicago resident was arrested on Friday afternoon in the 300 block of Dodge Avenue, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. Officers saw the man swerving into other lanes and making obscene gestures to other drivers, and he talked incoherently when pulled over.

The 46-year-old Evanston resident was arrested on Saturday night in the 2900 block of Simpson Street, Dugan said. The driver had swerved onto the other side of the street and crashed into a car heading in the opposite direction, causing minor injuries. Officers saw the man had an open beer in his car.

Both men were charged, separately, with misdemeanor DUIs, and the second man was also charged with transportation of open alcohol.

Eight bikes stolen in recent days

Eight different bikes were stolen in five different incidents between Wednesday and Sunday around Evanston.

Four bikes were stolen from an unlocked residential garage in the 1200 block of Florence Avenue on Thursday, and a bike was stolen another unlocked garage in the 2700 block of Central Street on Saturday.

Additionally, a locked bike was stolen from outside the Main El station in the 800 block of Chicago Avenue on Wednesday, another bike was stolen from a bike rack in the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue on Friday, and another locked bike was stolen from the 1700 block of Maple Avenue on Sunday.

Dugan said that while the number of incidents is “a lot,” he does not believe that they are related.
