Sara Tully will serve as the new director of the integrated study abroad office, the University announced in a news release Thursday.
Tully is currently the executive director of the Center for International Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. NU recently combined the Office of Study Abroad and the Office of International Program Development to make the new study abroad office that Tully will oversee, according to the release. Integrating the offices is part of a goal to prioritize international learning, the release said.
Tully led an effort at UWM to combine five offices related to international education, the release said.
In an email to The Daily, Tully said the University has many resources that support international teaching.
“The challenge facing the University is one of aligning and engaging these stakeholders and programs strategically,” Tully said in the email. “I’m excited by the prospect of working with knowledgeable and committed colleagues to strengthen education abroad as a cornerstone of the undergraduate experience.”
Earlier in her career, Tully worked as a U.S. Department of Education program officer for international education grants.
Tully said NU has laid “significant groundwork” for an “ambitious global education agenda.”
“I hope to work together with Northwestern’s study abroad professionals to strengthen student access to and participation in global learning, to strengthen faculty ownership of the overseas curriculum, and to employ administrative practices that support strategic internationalization objectives,” Tully said in the email.
