Woman charged with child endangerment after car accident
December 8, 2016
An Evanston woman was charged with misdemeanor child endangerment on last month following a car accident.
The woman was driving with her 6-year-old daughter when she allegedly rear-ended another car at the intersection of Hinman Avenue and Dempster Street, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. No one was injured in the accident.
When EPD officers arrived on the scene, the woman was confused, unsteady on her feet and had glassy eyes, Dugan said. The woman allegedly told officers she had taken a prescription pain pill before driving.
The woman was arrested in connection with the incident and charged on Nov. 30 with driving under the influence of prescription drugs and misdemeanor child endangerment because her daughter was in the car. She was also issued a traffic citation for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
The woman is due in court on Jan. 18, Dugan said.
