Northwestern retained its position as the 12th best university in the nation, according to this year’s rankings by U.S. News and World Report.
The 2017 rankings, released Tuesday, placed NU behind Johns Hopkins University and Dartmouth College, which took 10th and 11th place, respectively. NU tied with the California Institute of Technology for 12th and placed ahead of Brown University, which was 14th.
NU was one of three Illinois universities ranked in this year’s Top 50. The University of Chicago took third place, tied with Yale University, while the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign ranked 44th. Princeton University once again took the top spot, followed by Harvard University.
U.S. News and World Report based its evaluations on data from more than 1,800 schools, according to a news release. Several factors contribute to the evaluations, including class size, alumni giving rates, test scores and financial resources.
