A burglar broke into three apartments in the 1800 block of Ridge Avenue on Thursday and stole more than $3,000 worth of electronics and money, police said.

A 58-year-old tenant reported to police her door was forced open and her apartment ransacked between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., Evanston Police Department spokesman Perry Polinski said.

After the first report, police canvassed the apartment building and found two other apartments had also been burglarized, Polinski said.

In total, two computers — one valued at $1,800 and other valued at $1,200 — and $70 were taken from the three apartments, Polinski said.

Man charged with battery, cocaine possession charges

A 24-year-old man was arrested on cocaine possession and battery charges in the 4900 block of W. Cermak Avenue on Wednesday night, police said.

The battery charge stemmed from a Jan. 5 fight in which the man objected to the rap lyrics of a 22-year-old acquaintance and punched him in the face, Polinski said.

The 22-year-old — an Evanston resident — received treatment for minor facial injuries at Presence Saint Francis Hospital following the incident, Polinski said.

The cocaine possession charge stemmed from an investigation conducted by the Neighborhood Enforcement Team, Polinski said.
