Woman arrested after incident at library

A 49-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with battery of a security guard at Evanston Public Library.

The male security guard, 27, told police the woman yelled and spit at him after he told her to leave the building, Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. The woman was already prohibited from visiting the library, 1703 Orrington Ave., after multiple incidents there, Dugan said.

After she left the library, the woman was arrested near Church Street and Benson Avenue and charged with criminal trespassing and battery, he said. She is scheduled to appear in court July 10.

Teenager charged in garage burglary

Police found a 16-year-old boy stealing a bicycle from an open garage Wednesday.

Police saw the boy riding the bicycle out of a garage in the 1800 block of Wesley Avenue, after which the boy immediately rode south down an alley away from the officers, police said. After the police stopped him, the Evanston resident told police he had stolen the bicycle.

The boy was charged with burglary and petitioned to juvenile court.
