Students forced to move out of Elder after flood

More than 15 students have been forced to move out of Elder Hall after a flood in the residential hall Thursday night.

Sprinklers were set off and caused extensive flooding and Residential Services determined the carpet must be removed and replaced on the third floor — a process that will be “disruptive and time consuming,” according to an email to affected students obtained by The Daily.

The students will be relocated to the basement of Bobb Hall and must be moved out of their rooms by Sunday at 5 p.m. Residential Services delivered boxes to the students’ rooms and is providing moving assistance during the day on Sunday to help students transport their boxes to Bobb.

The email, which was sent by Dan Barker, director of Elder and Kemper residence halls, also said Residential Services is conducting an investigation to determine what caused the sprinkler to turn on. Barker said students are “encouraged to make a list of any damaged property and approximate value.”
