Northwestern reports sexual assault from summer 2012

A campus security authority reported an incident of criminal sexual assault to University Police on Jan. 21.

The incident occurred on campus during the summer of 2012. The CSA, someone who is obligated to report if they become aware a student has been sexually assaulted, said the incident involved rape or fondling and that there was one person assaulted, Deputy Chief Dan McAleer said. He said the CSA said the incident had not been reported earlier to a law enforcement agency.

McAleer said University Police is unable to investigate any further without the victim’s identity, the specific location the incident occurred or information about any suspects. He said it is unknown why the incident is just now being reported.

“The report, nonetheless, hopefully gives the campus community a better sense of the overall sex crimes that have occurred on campus,” he wrote in an email to The Daily.
