A playlist to lift your spirits
February 3, 2014
It’s been almost a month since school reopened, and I don’t feel as happy as I did last quarter.
I’m not unhappy. It’s just that the sheen of a brand new college has finally worn off and I’m gradually coming to terms with a stressful workload (Journalism 201-1, anyone?), a schedule that barely allows me six hours of sleep each night and the added guilt of accidentally forgetting to Skype my parents for weeks (yes, they did think I had vanished off of the face of the earth). The supremely dull weather doesn’t help at all, not even with its intermittent sunny spells, and don’t even get me STARTED on the negative temperatures. You know you need to re-evaluate your life choices when you check the weather in the morning and excitedly Snapchat everyone in your contacts list saying “-7 degrees C i.e. 20 degrees F?? It warmed up!!”
Eventually, at the end of a long day, all I want to do is curl up in a nest of blankets and sleep, but college life doesn’t agree with that plan.
Thankfully, I have some wonderful suitemates and friends who always have time to talk no matter how busy they are. Thanks to these people, I haven’t crumbled into a pile of despair and sadness. They cheer me up at the end of the day and support me in everything I try. They’re the type of people who nostalgic alumni call their closest lifelong friends, and at the risk of sounding too sappy, they make my life even happier than it was last quarter.
In a similar fashion, this playlist is dedicated to making you, dear reader, feel as uplifted as is humanly possible (and then some). I hope you all have a happy rest-of-the-Winter Quarter and all the quarters to come!
