Three members of Northwestern’s field hockey team were named first-team Longstreth/NFHCA All-West Region selections Tuesday.
Senior forward Nikki Parsley, senior midfielder Tara Puffenberger and sophomore defender Lisa McCarthy are now eligible for All-American recognition.
The announcement came two weeks after the trio was named All-Big Ten — Parsley and Puffenberger first-team and McCarthy second-team — and coach Tracey Fuchs was awarded Big Ten Coach of the Year.
Parsley has earned All-Region honors in each of her four years at NU. This year, she led the Wildcats in scoring, netting more goals than all but three others in the Big Ten.
Puffenberger, who was second on the team in goals and third in assists, was first-team All-West Region last year and second-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region in 2010, when she played for Virginia.
McCarthy led NU with nine assists while contributing to a strong defense that ceded only 1.13 goals per game this season. She was second-team All-Region as a freshman in 2012.
The Cats were 15-5 on the season and tied for first in the Big Ten with a 5-1 conference record. They lost in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament and were not selected for the NCAA Tournament.
