The animated family comedy “Wreck-It Ralph” will kick off Northwestern’s six-film Summer Cinema festival July 10, the University announced this afternoon.
Two movies in the series are being shown as part of the Evanston150 initiative to honor the city’s 150th anniversary. Several scenes from the ’80s comedy “Sixteen Candles” were shot in Evanston, and the city received $14,000 from the film company that produced the ’70s caper flick “The Sting” because the word “Evanston” is used in its dialogue. “Sixteen Candles” is slated for July 31 and “The Sting” for Aug. 14.
One film is scheduled for each Wednesday as part of the series, which is presented by NU’s Center for Student Involvement. The movies will start at dusk — expected to be about 9 p.m. — on the East Lawn of Norris University Center.
The other films featured are “The Pink Panther,” “The Impossible” and “Oz the Great and Powerful.” All but one of the six movies is rated PG.
