As if capturing a school record in his first year wasn’t enough, Northwestern swimmer Jordan Wilimovsky was named Tuesday to the U.S. roster for the World Aquatics Championships. The freshman will be the only American competing in the meet’s 25K race next month in Barcelona, Spain.

The Malibu, Calif., native earned a spot on the roster by posting strong times at this year’s USA Swimming Open Water National Championships, finishing fourth in the 5K and 10K events. Wilimovsky finished ninth in the 10K race at the same meet last year.

Wilimovsky broke records for the mile swim twice during his freshman year, first when he shattered the record at the Norris Aquatic Center by four seconds and then when he broke the school record at the Big Ten Championships four months later.

Before coming to Evanston, Wilimovsky medaled twice at the 2012 Junior Open Water World Championships, receiving silver in the 17-18 Boys 7.5K race and bronze in the 17-18 Co-ed Team Event 3K race.
