Evanston police said they arrested a 36-year-old parolee Wednesday morning after investigators found 500 grams of marijuana in his house.
Marcus R. Johnson, of the 1100 block of Sherman Avenue, faces two felony charges in connection with the drug bust. He was also charged with possession of firearm ammunition without a firearm owner’s identification card after investigators came upon two .44-caliber bullets in his home.
Johnson was out on parole for residential burglary and aggravated battery, so he was served a parole violation warrant, police said.
He is scheduled to appear in court June 3.
Johnson was arrested during a random check of about 20 Evanston residents who were on parole or confined to electronic home monitoring, police said. The inspection involved the Evanston Police Special Operations Group, Cook County sheriff’s office and Illinois Department of Corrections.
“The coordinated effort by the involved agencies is one example of the Evanston Police Department’s strategy to reduce victimization and violence in Evanston,” EPD Cmdr. Jay Parrott said in a news release.
