Senior Emily Allard will miss the remainder of the 2013 season after reaggravating an undisclosed injury at the beginning of the season.
The shortstop will request a medical hardship waiver. She has only played in six of Northwestern’s first 26 games this season, hitting .263 with three runs scored and an RBI.
“Emily has worked tremendously hard in her rehab program to get back on the field this year,” coach Kate Drohan said today in a statement. “Unfortunately her recovery did not progress the way it needed to for her to be able to compete this season.”
Following an off-season surgery for an unspecified ailment, Allard re-injured herself in the opener against Arizona. She went on to miss 18 games but returned to play in all five matches at the Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla., before deciding not to continue the season.
