Chi Omega and 22 other organizations from the Northwestern community will sell wristbands across campus this week to raise money for the fund supporting Josie Nordman, a Communication sophomore with cystic fibrosis who needs a life-saving double-lung transplant.
Nordman, a member of Chi O, will need to pay a balance of up to $75,000 not covered by insurance for the $750,000 cost of the transplant. Already overwhelmed with other expenses and hospitals bills, the family recently turned to friends to help cover the cost.
Silicone wristbands that say “Support Josie” will be sold at The Rock, Technological Institute and Kellogg School of Management from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every day from Jan. 28 to Feb. 1. The suggested donation for the wristband is $2.
“They are vibrant and visible and they are cheap to order, so the profit margin would be really big so we could give as much money as possible to Josie’s family,” said Chi O co-philanthropy chair Sharon Reshef, who helped plan the event.
The NU Equestrian Team, Evans Scholars and 20 fraternities and sororities all agreed to help Chi O purchase the wristbands and staff the tables on campus.
“We were thinking that this is something that the whole Northwestern community could come together to support her,” said Reshef, a SESP junior. “It was a really great showing of support from the community.”
